Before turning to writing fulltime, Sheryle worked for fifteen years at the Australian Broadcasting Corp, first as Business Editor of ABC Radio National Breakfast, hosted at the time by Fran Kelly (2006-2015), and then as the show’s Executive Producer (2016-2019).

Prior to joining the ABC, Sheryle was Europe correspondent for The Australian Financial Review newspaper, based in London (1998-2001). Previous to that, she served as the newspaper’s senior features writer, based in Sydney, for more than a decade. She also wrote the AFR’s ground-breaking column ‘Corporate Woman’ for several years.

In 2003, Sheryle and her husband moved to Lyon in France, where she contributed to high-profile media including the Financial Times of London, Euro News Television, the BBC, the Melbourne Sunday Age, and the Sydney Sun-Herald.

While in Lyon, she wrote her first non-fiction book about her experiences living in France. My French Connection (HarperCollns, 2006) was described as ‘an elegant interweaving of memoir and social observation that offers many insights into the country and its culture’. (Amazon, 2015).

Sheryle has won several awards for her journalism, including a Walkley Award for Excellence in Journalism, the Citibank Award for Excellence in Business Journalism and the Edna Ryan Award for Women Who Have Made a Feminist Difference.

In 2017, Sheryle and her husband decided to put down more permanent roots in France, buying an old stone cottage in a small village in northern Provence.
